Three minutes to six!

I admired this timepiece the moment I set eyes on it at an old antique shop.

“He will love it,” I thought as I observed the craftsmanship, hoping to gift it to my husband.

But two things seemed odd here. First, there was no price tag on it. Second, the watch was set at around 3 minutes to 6 and that made me wonder.

I went to the old shop assistant and enquired about the price.”It is priceless,” she said. I said I wanted to buy it.

“Well, then take it for free,” she said mysteriously. I heard her mumbling, “The watch has chosen you. Good luck to you.”

I had an eerie feeling as I reached my car. I checked time on my phone. It was 2 minutes to 6.

I could hear two distinct sounds now – tick tick from the timepiece and thud thud from my heart! I felt I needed to make a decision…!

This is my entry to the flash fiction challenge, Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers hosted by the lovely Priceless Joy. We are given a photo prompt and approximately 75-175 words with which to create our stories. This challenge is open to all who would like to participate. Please CLICK HERE for more. Thank you Louise for the image!

  1. Shivangi!
    This was something amazing.
As I started to read I slowly went into it and was caught in it.
I will tell you how- The other day I bought a same type of an antique piece with a compass made in London in 1897, of course for a price. While reading this I was feeling proud about the possession as I came down reading it – Oh! no this a fiction writing. Priceless Joy has made me feel like that so many times. Heart thud, thud, thud every time I go to her blog I have to take a long breath and make my Heart to be normal.
    Very well written.
I wanted to ask you something, so many of my blogger friends are telling that they do not get to see my post on their Reader and email notifications is that the same experience with you.

    1. Thank you PJ… Perhaps the time piece suggests the time the narrator will die… But again free will is at work… May be she will survive if she lets go of the time piece. Who knows…!! Wonderful prompt!

    1. Thanks a lot Michael. I guess the timepiece is showing the time of death of the narrator. But her mind believes it to be a superstition while heart wants to get rid of the timepiece…she has a decision to make!

  2. A very intriguing story! Why did the watch choose her and what will happen…good things or bad things? I hope she made the right choice. And, I think if I were her, I would stay away from antique shops after that….assuming things go well. 🙂

    1. Hahaha… I think she threw the watch and drove away… and then exactly at 3 minutes to 6 something happened…she woke up, it was all a bad dream. And then she remembered, she had to visit an antique store to pick up a watch… the rigmarole begins. Hahahaha.. Thanks a lot for stopping by😀
