Bedtime Book – The Boy Named Joy on Amazon!

Children’s bedtime book, The Boy Named Joy is now available on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084DMGH8J). Download your eBook copies on Amazon.com or Amazon.in (if you are in India).
Here is the preview:
About the Book: Why is King Boo-Hoo always sad although he has everything? And why is the boy named Joy always happy although he has nothing. What is the secret? The magic painting or something else… Read this endearing tale to know all about JOY!

The Making: The story was written quickly but the illustrations were a problem. Then, my eight-year-old, Adiraj stepped in and created the characters. He was enthusiastically encouraged by my little kindergartner, Aviraj. And after the characters were drawn on paper, I digitized the pictures and put it all together. This is how we created the book.

Message: The Boy Named Joy has a message for school children and adults as well! This Children’s eBook tells us that happiness does not really depend on cool gadgets, apps, video games or fancy clothes. That kind of happiness is momentary. True happiness comes by choosing to be happy irrespective of what we have and what we don’t have.

The eBook will help raise, good, happy kids who would learn to make wise choices in life. It is my sincere hope that this special tale will entertain as well as teach the kids to stay positive despite challenges in life just like the main character Joy.

Our kids face many challenges in life and this simple book might help.

Your feedback is extremely important and very welcome. Don’t forget to write a review on Amazon if you like it. Thanks again for being a great support!

Blog Birthday – 5 years of blogging and a surprise!

My Dear,

I have blogged almost every week, shared my meditative thoughts, updates on life and random observations with pictures and quotes. It has been terrific journey so far!

You have been a great companion to me all this while. You did not stop reading and I did not stop writing, it has been a lovely relationship!  This blog has grown beyond my expectations and page views everyday are really motivating.

There is some good news – my two picture eBooks ‘The Princess with Brown Teeth‘ and ‘Who Ate the Moon?‘ are now available on Amazon.com as Kindle purchase. The princess book is sure to motivate picky eaters and help them in making good food choices and the moon book talks about the various phases of the moon. Kids who have read it on iTunes have loved them.

But wait, here is the surprise  – my third picture eBook would be coming out very soon!!! Before the Valentine’s Day, for sure! It could make a lovely gift for your loved one. Here is a quick look at what is to come. The illustrations are by my 8 year old, who stepped in to create the characters from my story about ‘The Boy Named Joy’! (I would love to know what do you think). More exciting stuff to come in my next post…

Small Thing#2 – Fidget Spinner, the sensational toy!

When my son told me about mighty Fidget Spinners, I stared at him dumbly. Later, I googled but found nothing great about the toy except that it acts as stress reliever. But kids (nephew, niece, neighbourhood kids… everyone) are raving about it this year!

This latest toy fad has taken school going kids in US by the storm. And grown ups like me are clueless about these weird flashy things! They are just so ordinary.

We also received a letter from the Principal banning the toy from school premises because kids were acting crazy over it.

I don’t know how Fidget Spinner people marketed this toy but they have certainly succeeded. After repeated request and good jobs, my son got his Fidget Spinner yesterday! And he was on top of the world. He promised to be the ‘nicest boy ever’ and carried it around like a precious treasure. Didn’t know Fidget Spinners were that effective! LOL!

A Gift For You – Princess ebook

My Dear,

With immense pleasure I announce the publishing of my first ever book – The  Princess with Brown Teeth in ebook format. It is free and a gift to you as well as your little one. You can also read the entire book online without downloading it by clicking here (click on PREVIEW after the link opens and happy reading!). Kindly leave an honest review.

I have given my best to this book, with little professional help, utilizing every little moment I have had, away from my two kids. I have done the illustrations myself with some help.

It is far from being perfect but I am happy that I completed it despite problems.

After becoming a mom, I entered kids’ magical world and saw wonder and creativity here. Many stories would enter my thoughts and leave but one perfect morning ‘The Princess with Brown Teeth’ came and thankfully stayed on. I just had to write it.

Although, I completed the book last month itself, I had difficulty letting it go.  That is why I could not summon the courage to publicise it earlier than now. I had the same set of feelings when my son started kindergarten! But now I am leaving it in your hands!

I always wanted to be an author and finally managed to self publish a book with the grace of Krishna!

Many of my friends on WordPress are already famous published authors who know far more than me. I humbly request you to point out at my mistakes for constructive criticism.

I sincerely hope that you and your little ones love this book as much as my little ones do.

Love always,

Shivangi

The pilot who loves to write!

When Squadron Leader turned author  Manish Kumar got introduced in one of our favourite Whats App groups by the enthusiastic admin, the group members were more than happy to welcome him. His book ‘Be Your Own Pilot’ has been climbing charts and we wanted to know more about him.

BYOP has sold a number of copies till now. In Amazon.in, it had been in top 50 Bestsellers list. It has sold out thrice in the US and is selling in almost 15 countries including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, Japan and Netherlands.

In a chit chat on his personal wall, he talked about his journey from being a pilot to a writer. His noble profession enabled him to undergo various enriching spiritual experiences that led him onto the path of writing. Here is an excerpt:

Q: What is ‘Be Your Own Pilot’ all about?
Manish
: In this inspirational fiction, I talk about the unlimited power and potential lying dormant in every soul, waiting to be awakened. The moment we become aware of the power within, we stop being a victim of circumstances, get off the autopilot called fate and take control of our life.

‘Be Your Own Pilot’ is about the journey of a boy from a small town who realizes his dream of becoming a pilot, learns the lessons of life on the way and goes on to inspire others to follow their dreams. His Flying Instructor implants wisdom into the flying lessons and teaches him to take the flight of faith. The book shows the way – how, by aligning personal desires to the benefit for mankind, it is possible to lead a deeply rich and satisfying life.

Q: What was the inspiration behind BYOP?
Manish
: During my tenure in the Indian Air Force I survived many near-fatal accidents. I and my crew were lucky to come alive out of these situations. These incidents made me delve deep into the meaning and purpose of life. I realized that my Life’s purpose was to show people way to live a meaningful and purposeful life. Hence, I wrote the book.

Q
: Please tell us about your career as a pilot? The challenges and the highlights.
Manish
: Initially, I was posted to a VIP Squadron and was a part of the formation carrying VVIPs like The President, Vice President, Prime Minister and the Service Chiefs. Flying with them requires precision and there is no room for error.

Later, I was posted to an operational Squadron. I flew extensively during Gujarat Cyclone and Earthquake in 1999/2000 doing rescue and relief work. In one of the sorties I rescued 05 fishermen, who were afloat on wooden planks after their fishing trawler was destroyed in the Cyclone. I was awarded the Chief of Air Staff Commendation Medal for saving their lives.

Q
: Have you had any formal training as a writer? Your message to upcoming writers?
Manish
:I had no formal training as a writer but I consider John Harricaharan, the Creative Writing Guru and the best-selling author, my mentor. I have read all his books on creative writing. He has also been kind enough to write the foreword for Be Your Own Pilot.

My first suggestion to all budding writers is to read or watch John’s story of Professor Peterson (click here).

Next is to fall in love with words. Once you are in love with them, you can feel intuitively whether you have used them correctly or not.

Lastly, write with your heart. Express your true feelings. Do not bother about what the Publishers or Readers will think. And don’t worry about grammar or other mistakes. There are people to correct them. The world just wants your original story. Write it.

Q
: Who is better Manish, the pilot or Manish, the author?
Manish
:I had become a Pilot with the sole aim of saving a life someday. After that was achieved, I moved over to shaping lives. Today, I have better and immense opportunities to touch lives through my book and lectures. You know, I had a reader who was about to commit suicide after being rejected from a job-interview. Luckily, he had the book. He read it and it gave him hope. So, I find being an Author is better than being a Pilot but I do miss flying at times.

Q
: What would be your next venture?
Manish
: We are trying to make a movie based on “Be Your Own Pilot.” I am also in between two books. “Souls : United at Last” is a true love story of Soulmates who meet after a few births. “The Fall Guy” is a science fiction in which I have borrowed the characters from Ramayana and Mahabharata and fit them in the modern context.

If you are looking for a nice self help book, this summer, do try this one! I tried and loved it.
