Small Thing # 4 – Why this Polar Bear, Polar Bear di?

Who can forget the famous Tanglish song – ‘Why this Kolaveri Di?’ which became an internet phenomenon in 2011. The rough cut video song, featured on and sung by the  immensely talented Dhanush, had a curious lyrics of Tamil and English.

Kolaveri means ‘Killer Rage’ in Tamil. Here, the failed lover asks his girl innocently – Why do you have this killer rage against me, lady?

Well, recently, my six year old gave it a nursery rhyme twist. We had a party and the song played throughout. The following day, in the car, I heard him singing with all his heart and soul – Why this Polar Bear, Polar Bear di? I heartily laughed and then corrected him!

But on second thoughts, may be, I’ll encourage him to use his own lyrics. Who knows it may turn out quite well… like the original version which accidentally got released on internet😀. Cheers!

Nepotism Sucks!

There are thousands of talented artists all over India, who have been struggling to make it big in the film industry. But eventually, they fail to shine because the arch lights are always on star kids and those with ‘right connections’. They elbow out everybody else. And the recent crassness deliverd from the IIFA 2017 stage by director Karan Johar, actors Saif Ali khan and Varun Dhawan, as they ganged up against Kangana Ranaut, shows their agressive attitude against the ‘outsiders’. They yelled – ‘Nepotism Rocks’ sounding high and mighty.

But if we, the cinema goers, take away the lights and their surnames from them, they do not stand a chance even as decent human beings.

I hope some law comes up to check this nepotism menace so that the deserving get their due. And the standard of our Hindi films improves. It is because of nepotism that we lose out on international stage.

Do have a look at the list below to recall the extent of nepotism in the Indian Film Industry. This is how they gained entry in films –

Karan Johar via Yash Johar

Varun Dhawan via David Dhawan

Saif Ali Khan via Sharmila Tagore

Salman Khan via Salim Khan

Aamir Khan via Tahir Hussain

Tiger Shroff via Jackie Shroff

Hrithik Roshan via Rakesh Roshan

Ajay Devgan via Veeru Devgan

Ranbir Kapoor via Rishi Kapoor

Shahid Kapoor via Pankaj Kapoor

Arjun Kapoor via Boney Kapoor

Sanjay Dutt via Sunil Dutt, Nargis

Abhishek Bachchan via Amitabh Bachchan

Sooraj Pancholi – Aditya Pancholy, Zarina Wahab

Ladies

Kareena Kapoor via Randhir Kapoor, Babita

Shraddha Kapoor via Shakti Kapoor

Sonakshi Sinha via Shatrughan Sinha

Alia Bhatt via Mahesh Bhatt

Sonam Kapoor via Anil Kapoor

Athiya Shetty via Suniel Shetty

Kajol via Tanuja

And the list is swelling. Looks at the instagram follows of would be star kids! Some of the aforementioned actors like Aamir Khan, Kajol are talented but most of these are useless, fake people – pompous with low IQs!

Exceptions like Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Irrfan Khan, Nawazuddin… have made it on their own. But they are just a handful and even they have to appease the nepotistic dons. Kangana called a spade a spade, therefore she has been a target since by the likes of Mr Johar.

We repeat, Mr Johar and the likes… Nepotism Sucks! That’s the very reason why our films lack originality.

Seven Deadly Sins and Me!

Now that I am almost on the 24th out of 28 magic steps, I can see what joy lies beyond! But first, I must sit to catch my breath! Looking down the steps, I can see the Sins hovering around to stop those who try to come up the stairs.

I was almost killed by the Sins. Initially, Pride puffed me but I prayed and got delivered. Then came Greed in form of precious pebbles, I ignored it. Lust tried to blind me with dirty images but I did not fall.
But unfortunately, a bug bit me and Anger took over. I rolled down. But thankfully, I persisted and started again. This time, I dodged Gluttony and Envy to rush right up here.

But… aah… what is making my body so heavy? I feel soooo sleepy! Oh, no Sloth is still around, getting better of me. I hope I make it…

Small Thing#3 – Sad but can’t help it!

How true are these words! We are all self proclaimed stars! We are a generation, armed with technology to showcase ourselves anywhere and everywhere…in the best possible light. And we are doing it, running after it, competing for one second of fame on our social media world! But what do we have to offer? ….Ugghh…Seriously?

As we record our ongoing history – friends bargain likes for likes, propagandists mix up facts, fiction becomes fact! Everyone’s beautiful through edited selfies, borrowed wisdom, sugary moments, lovely videos…anyone can be a star in our generation! What a beautiful place! Really? What a maze! What should be believed in? What should be followed? And, haven’t we excelled in editing…in fact… editing out reality, itself?

I guess, posterity will have a tough time sieving truth and excellence out of our recorded history. Because we all know that sparkling gems are being covered by piles and piles of fire crackers!

But we all love it, don’t we? Can’t help it!
